If you are a lover of exotic sports cars and other rare model cars, then Sunriver, Oregon was the place to be on Saturday, September 17th, 2011. The annual Sunriver Festival of Cars was held behind the Sunriver Lodge on the Meadows Golf Course.

The highlighted cars this year in the festival were Italian Sports Cars which included Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Alfa Romeo. I must admit, there were more than a few cars that caught my attention as I walked through and photographed the lineup. I put together the video above if you weren’t able to make it so that you can enjoy a little car appreciation too. OK, I’ll admit it.  I’m a romantic at heart and I’ve been known to tear up at a wedding or two in my lifetime.  With June upon us, the season of weddings has arrived.  Sunriver has long been a perfect spot for weddings.  With its mild, sunny, climate and very few days of rain, Sunriver is naturally a place where two people can come together to promise their vows before family, friends and God in an atmosphere that is befitting the perfect wedding day.

The new Sunriver Aquatic Center affectionately known as SHARC (Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreational Center) has broken ground and it is amazing how quickly the 22 acre area has been cleared of the old sledding hill and approximately 400 trees!

While digging out the old sledding hill, pieces of concrete and rebar which are thought to be a foundations from the old Camp Abbot were uncovered. The uncovered cement pieces were used as riprap to stabilize the nearby riverbanks and the rest is expected to be used to create the new sledding hill according to the Sunriver Scene.

I was amazed at how large of a space will become the new site of the Aquatic and Recreational facilities. It’s going to be a phenomenal new addition to Sunriver’s recreational amenities.

I suspect that Sunriver homes, fractionals and condos that are located nearby the new facility will become very popular vacation rentals with vacationing tourists. Sunriver Oregon Art

This is such a great idea and I hope a few of my readers are local artists who have dreamed of one day opening their own gallery. This is a great way to fulfill that dream and not have to be burdened with the entire cost of bringing a gallery to fruition.

The day was sunny and beautiful as only Sunriver can produce. The views from the back of Sunriver lodge where the 2010 Winefest was held was a picture perfect postcard. Mt Bachelor glistened in the distance, the fairways were an emerald green, and no one seemed to have a care in the world.

It’s easy to forget there are any problems in the world when you’re visiting Sunriver. The wine festival was yet another Sunriver event that allowed people to take a little time for themselves, unwind, and experience some of the best wine produced along the West coast of the United States.

From Santa Barbara to Seattle, over 35 wineries brought in their finest wines for Sunriver guests to enjoy. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, & Merlot were most prominent throughout the different tasting booths, while Cabernet, Pinot Gris, Syrah and Riesling rounded out the top wines featured.

My personal, all around favorite winery that was represented was Vitis Ridge in Silverton Oregon, because of the fact that they didn’t have a single bad wine among their offerings. Their 2009 Chardonnay was a real surprise with a ripe fruit flavor not usually found in a Chardonnay. Some of the other standouts for me were the Baco Noir (a hybrid grape) from Girardet winery in Oregon which had a similar quality to a jammy Zinfandel but a lighter, brighter version of it.

The festival featured live entertainment, demonstrations, and an assortment of artisans selling hand made furniture, jewelry, art and more. Winefest is just one of many year round events that Sunriver offers. For those looking for a second/vacation home, you will be hard pressed to find a recreational community that has more to offer than Sunriver.
